About

Noboribetsu is Hokkaido's most famous onsen resort, fed by the volcanic Jigokudani (Hell Valley). The valley's steaming vents and boiling pools are a dramatic sight. The town's ryokan offer multiple bath types from milky sulfur to iron-rich springs.

Crowd Avoidance

Visit between 2-4pm when most guests are sightseeing, or after 9pm for a quiet soak. Avoid weekends and holiday periods.

Getting There

Noboribetsu Station (JR Muroran Line — limited express from Sapporo, 70 min) then bus to onsen town (15 min).
