Insider Tip
Daruma is the most famous kushikatsu chain, but Yaekatsu (八重勝) next door is where the locals actually eat. Never double-dip in the communal sauce — it is the cardinal sin of kushikatsu.
JEMS Tip
We guide you to the best kushikatsu restaurants (the ones with the longest local queues, not the tourist-facing ones) and explain the strict "no double-dipping" sauce rule.
About
Shinsekai ("New World") is a retro entertainment district built in 1912, modeled after New York and Paris. Today it is a wonderfully nostalgic area of neon-lit kushikatsu (deep-fried skewer) restaurants, old-school game centers, and the iconic Tsutenkaku Tower.
Crowd Avoidance
Visit on weekday mornings for a more relaxed experience. Osaka attractions are busiest on weekend afternoons.
Getting There
Dobutsuen-mae Station (Midosuji/Sakaisuji Lines) — exit 1, immediate access to Shinsekai.
