Insider Tip

No photos allowed inside (by Miyazaki's request). The rooftop garden with the Robot Soldier is the one photo spot. The cafe serves themed food.

JEMS Tip

We secure tickets through the Japanese-only Lawson lottery system months in advance — this is nearly impossible for foreign visitors to do alone.

About

The Ghibli Museum is a whimsical building designed by Miyazaki himself, featuring original artwork, a short film theater (exclusive films), the giant Catbus for kids, and a rooftop Robot Soldier from Laputa. Tickets sell out months ahead.

Crowd Avoidance

Visit on weekday mornings right at opening. Avoid rainy days when indoor attractions get busier. Book timed-entry tickets when available.

Getting There

Mitaka Station (JR Chuo Line from Shinjuku, 20 min) — community bus or 15-minute walk through Inokashira Park.
