About
Nikko Toshogu is the lavishly decorated mausoleum of Tokugawa Ieyasu, the founder of the Tokugawa shogunate. The ornate carvings include the famous "see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil" monkeys and the sleeping cat (Nemuri-neko).
Crowd Avoidance
Visit early morning at opening time or late afternoon to avoid tour groups. Weekdays are much quieter than weekends.
