Insider Tip
The Yanaka Cemetery is beautiful during cherry blossom season. Yanaka Ginza's "Sunset Steps" (Yuyake Dandan) offer a perfect golden-hour photo spot.
JEMS Tip
We create a walking route through the hidden temples and artisan workshops that most tourists miss, including the best spots for traditional Japanese sweets and craft sake.
About
Yanaka is one of the few Tokyo neighborhoods that survived both the 1923 earthquake and WWII bombings. Its narrow lanes, traditional wooden houses, small temples, and the famous Yanaka Ginza shopping street offer a glimpse of old Tokyo.
Crowd Avoidance
Visit on weekdays when possible. Tokyo attractions are busiest on weekends and national holidays.
Getting There
Nippori Station (JR Yamanote Line) — west exit, immediate access to Yanaka Cemetery and the neighborhood.
