About
Beppu is Japan's hot spring capital, producing more hot spring water than anywhere else in the country. The "Hells" (Jigoku) are seven spectacular hot springs for viewing — blood-red, cobalt blue, and boiling mud pools.
Crowd Avoidance
Visit between 2-4pm when most guests are sightseeing, or after 9pm for a quiet soak. Avoid weekends and holiday periods.
